Easter Fimo / polymer clay Rabbit Tutorial .

This is Herbert , 

Isnt he adorable ? 

Now this post is about giving  you the skills to make a simple Easter Rabbit.

Once you have had a practice you can then add more detail for one like Herbert ..

I wanted to show him and the set to you to show you what can  be done just by 

adding that little bit extra to your work .

Now Herbert has curled wired for his whiskers and is alot bigger than the one in the tutorial.

(you can always double the measurements for a bigger one !)

By making him a home , with a card to match has given him that extra special love 

which makes a fimo Bunny into a treasured possesion.

Now for the basic bunny !

How to........

you will need...

1 x block white fimo

small piece of coloured fimo or you can paint the decoration afterwards with acylic paint if 

you dont have the second colour..

cocktail stick or brad/paper piecer

nice clean washed hands ! white fimo picks every little fleck up !

 

FOR THE BODY ..

Step 1     - cut two strips off a fimo block.

Soften these two strips in the hands and then roll it into a smooth ball.

Step 2 - Finger rolling ...

To create the chunky tear shape ..

Place one finger off  centre of the ball and gently applying just alittle pressure roll back and forth - add another finger  as it gets alittle longer , then another - this will give you an even body. Keep doing this until in measures approx - 4 1/2 cm - this is just guide for you .

it should now look alittle like this -

Step 3 - Now sit your body up 

Using the pad of your index finger and thumb flatten the top point gently - this creates a neck and a step for the head to rest on .

FEET

Step 4 -cut another strip off the fimo block - cut this in half , then half again. - 2 are for the feet - save the other two pieces for the arms.

Step 5 - Just like before , soften the clay then roll into a ball and then a  chunky tear shape ..Use the finger rolling  technique as before , you may only need one or two fingers this time.

Now flatten the clay with the pad of your finger - rolling it on gently then off .

put the feet to one side now - we come back to them later...

Arms...                                                                 

Step 6 .

Taking the two pieces of cut  fimo left, 
soften and roll each one separatly into
a ball , then into a sausage shape - use
the finger rolling technigue, roll gently and 
evenly with hardly any pressure , the 
rolling back and forth will lengthen  it for you.

Put arms to one side - we come back later for them...

Head, Teeth and Ears

Step 7  ,
for his Head , cut 3/4  (approx) strip of fimo and
roll into a ball , then into a tear shape - Just like his feet.
Teeth

roll a small ball of fimo , flatten then 

cut a tooth shape .
Ears ,
cut one strip off the fimo block, half it , then 
half  that half again . roll each small piece 
of fimo into a ball and into a tear shape ,
just like the feet , but a bit longer.
Flatten using the pad of your finger.

The decoration...

Step 8 -

Mix some pink (or your chosen 2nd colour) 
with alittle white fimo ... 
roll 6 small balls and 2 larger ones , flatten and using the pad of your finger gently press
onto the feet .
Now , again using the pad of your finger and holding the back of the body gently press the feet onto the body ..






make two balls of even size for the cheeks 

flatten gently .




(leave to one side for now)

 roll two small balls of pink , and roll that into a 
long tear shape ,flatten and press onto each ear.
Using your thumb , flatten the point slightly,
this helps with pressing onto the rabbits head.

 




make a small tear shape for the nose....




(leave to one side for now)

 Roll a big ball ,into a chunky tear shape for the

egg... leave to one side .... now go  wash your hands .. lol..

All done ? now on to 

Step 9 - attaching in it all ..   

you already have the feet attached..

Always use the pad of your

finger.

next attached the head ( point at top) 

by holding the back of the body with one hand,
and gently pressing the head onto the "step"

on the neck. next do the same with the arms, notice 

how i have bent them into
a slighty banana shape..

next attach the teeth ,

then the cheeks and nose,

Now the ears ... thickest part at the top be sure to have them close together so it sticks better, bend the ear if you wish .

Using a cocktail stick or a paper piecer , press into the fimo to make his eyes.

You may wish to roll some fimo for his eyebrows, but he looks good without too !  using a knife indent his whiskers and add 3 little holes with a cocktail stick too. Ive pushed a brad into his body for decoration also. You can keep the egg plain or decorate it , once done gently push it onto the front ....   Now last but not least his bunny tail ... ive kept this last because its good to also use to help him be balanced ,, just roll a small ball of fimo and press it onto his bottom ! 

BAKING HIM .......

Bake on a plate /tile in the centre of the oven  following the manufacters temperature on the packet .For 30  minutes. Please do look at the temperature on the packet - it will be very low to bake him, and some clays are different.

There you have it your Easter Rabbit !

I have had many emails and requests for making embellishments for cards and scrapbooking layouts.. so in view of demand lol i will show you how to make a snowman family. It is slightly different from the earrings , and i have also made a tutorial of the holly and berries , i did have a little help from you know who too !

Now if i was to send a card with fimo on , i would definatly put it in a strong box for posting .. fimo is delicate and i wouldnt think it would survive being shoved through a letter box !
Also if you was to use it on a layout i would make sure nothing heavy goes onto of your scrapbook.



So here goes ! REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE AND WHEN YOU CHANGE COLOURS.
1. roll a ball of white fimo
.

2. Roll this into a sausage shape .


3. Next we are going to cut the bodies and the heads , The first is the dad snowman body - cut roughly about 2 cms , then the head 1 1/2 cm . Mum - body 1 1/2 cm head 1cm , child snowman -body 1cm , head just alittle over 1/2 cm. These measurements are only a guide , so long as it looks in proportion , thats ok.


4. Keeping them in order- ie - dads body , dads head etc .. roll each one into a smooth round ball.


5. next we have to taper the ends of each body. Place the pad of your finger just on top but on the side of the ball and roll back and forth until the end looks like a tear shape.
Flattern this with your finger and then gently press the head onto the body - just use alittle of the taper end or he will look a bit neckless !

6. now we have all three snowmen , its time to add the hat . first roll a red ball of fimo , flattern slightly with the pad of your finger and cut in half. Place one half onto the top of the head - tap gently to secure. With the other half left over roll this back into a ball then into a tear shape (just like we did for the body ) Cut the end of point off and gently push onto the hat - tap to secure - and remember also it needs to be flat against your surface. This is shown on the picture as 1- ball, 2 - tear shape - 3 cut off point.







7.its time to add the scarf . first roll a small ball of white fimo and then asmall ball of red fimo . Roll each of these into a thin sausage shape . Pick up both ends with your thumb and index finger and lift up so it dangles . Using your other hand , twist the fimo from the bottom- becareful not to over twist as it will break off.


8. Cut off a small piece and wrap around the front of the snowmans neck.


9. cut two smaller pieces for the scarf. Then roll a very small ball of red and gently tap this onto the scarf join.Repeat for the other two snowmen.


10 , Using some orange fimo , roll into a ball , then a thin sausage shape. Cut out 3 tiny triangles for noses and using your knife to gently pick it up with, place on the face and tap gently.



11. For the mouth -Now take your straw and cut the end off at an angle - so it looks like a half moon shape. Test the shape on a piece of spare fimo , once your happy with the shape gently push into the face - you can position them with different smiles - ie at the side.


12 - The eyes- for the eyes i used a cocktail stick - gently push in and twist it as your taking it out .... hmmmmmm i appear to have lost mine ..........

13.Place your dad and mum snowmen together. gently tap the sides so they stick to each other.
Because there is a gap underneth the child it needs to be filled to keep it the same height as the other two. Roll a small ball of white fimo and place this just between the mum and the dad.

14. Now place the child ontop.
15. For the arms. - roll small sausage shapes and gently tap onto the sides. For dads hand around mum , roll a small tear shape and press gently over her shoulder .



Now all three are ready for baking . I bake on a tile or plate (not used for food) and bake as per instructions on the clay packet.
ONCE baked - leave to cool . On the video i show you how to make the holly and to make your snowmen look furry. Its not the best vid in the world lol but it gets alot clearer at the end.

Fimo toadstool tutorial.

Hi all :)

I know there are many crafters out there who have spare Fimo polymer clay hanging around the craft room. A real easy little project is a Fimo toadstool, these can be used for displays, or as a great addition to a fairy garden for the kids. So i have done a basic tutorial with some pics to get you there.

First you need some Fimo, i used the Fimo Classic here....this was a light flesh colour, but any of the lighter colours will do.....



Cut off 1/4th of it, that's all you need for a toadstool of this size...

You now need to make two balls of equal size. To do this, just cut your piece in two before you start rolling the balls......cheers for that tip Maddy! :)



Then roll the two balls......one will be your stem, and the other your top.



Take the first ball, and roll it into a sausage shape.....



Then taking an end in each hand between the fingers, twist it alternating ways (one end forwards whilst the other twists backwards......apologies if that sounds like i'm teaching anyone to suck eggs, believe me when i say i need to make it clear so that I can remember it!!! :)

Now you have your twisted stem. You don't have to have a twist in it, in fact i'm not sure that real toadstools do at all.....i just like it!



So that's your stem done. Put it to one side and take your second ball of clay. Flatten it with the pad of your finger/thumb until it's quite flat, about 3 or 4 mm.



Now to mark the underside with the toadstools gills....i just marked a dot in the middle as a guide, then pressed with the blade of a craft knife to get the markings. Tip, if you find it hard spacing the lines out properly, mark a cross, then half the segments in that, then half the segments again......and so on. It doesn't have to be perfect though......have you ever seen a toadstool that was?



Turn it over, then for added effect, i cut small chips into the edge of the toadstool...



Next take the toadstool roof, and press the edges slightly to thin out the rounded edges. You can use two hands for this, one to hold, one to press. I just couldn't as i had to take a piccy!



That's the roof done......now push the stem up into the centre of the roof. Do this firmly enough to make it stick, but gentle enough not to go through the top. Hey presto....one Fimo toadstool!!!



Please do not fret if you think it looks rubbish at this stage, once it's gone hard and you have added some colour later, it looks so much better! Really brings out the realism to it.

Now go and stick it in the oven. I did mine for 30 mins at Gas Mark half, or 110 degrees F/240 degrees C. Once done, let it cool thoroughly.

Time to give it some colour. Below are the colours i used. A Dark Moss and charcoal Colourbox ink, and a Fired Brick and Tea Dye Distress ink pad. These were applied with a standard 1/2in paint brush i found in my shed. Oh yes...only the best tools for Calv! :)



First off, i applied the Dark Moss to the stem. I just jabbed the brush into the ink pad, then flicked the brush around the stem rather than "painted it. This ensured any little nooks and cranny's were coloured.



Then i turned it over and did the underside in Charcoal ink...



I just gave the edge a little ink too......



Lastly, colour the top. I used two layers of colour on this one, Tea Dye first then after a quick dry with a heat gun, i brushed it with Fired Brick to give it a reddish hint.
So there you go.......one finished toadstool!
