Quick and easy vintage trinket box

 Hi Sarah here from sarahwrightdesigns.blogspot.com. I thought you might like this quick and easy tutorial that will transform a plain box blank into a vintage style box.
All you need is

• Silver card
• Black acrylic paint
• old paintbrush
• emboss folder and die cutting machine ( I used Sizzix Big Shot)
• Sizzix dies, flowers and leaves
  
• Kitchen roll or cotton wool
• Craft mat ( optional to paint on )

Start of with a box blank

Cut strips of silver card to fit sides of box

 Emboss strips of card with an embossing folder

 

 Paint over card with black acrylic paint

Wipe of acrylic paint with kitchen roll or cotton wool. some of the paint will remain in the recessed parts of the embossed image

Stick pieces of card to box sides

Paint lid of box with Acrylic paint

Add the flowers and leaves that you have made, using the same process

Your box is now complete

Making Paper Flowers

Hi everyone,

Here's a nice and pretty tutorial from Conni... she's a paper crafter from Switzerland and does some amazing cards, among other things ;-) So make sure to visit her -->blog<-- for more inspiration!

Now, for her tutorial: Flowers Adorn...

First, I stamp a few flowers (eg Stampendous / Q131 Ruffled Blcom)

on thicker paper (it comes with already augestanzten flowers)

then treated with a stamped VersaMark

then sprinkle embossing powder

then heat emboss (I have no Hot Gun, so I used a toaster tuts)

It should look something like this:

Now, with a flower punch

Punch!

Then distress the edges

Using a mat and a stylus, turn the flower backside and press

Ready!

Wedding Cards

In this tutorial I have used the D'vine Swirl Folder and Heart Nesties to make a Wedding Day Card. These two were made for each other! So what else could I possibly use?

Materials used: A4 sheet of White Linen cardstock
Folder: D'vine Swirls
2 Heart Nestie Dies
Harmony Alphabet
Flowers, ribbon and beads

I first printed the words on A4 card - cut the card to 28 cms x 14 cms - scored a centre line and folded. I also scored lines just above the words.

The front of the card - the scored lines give a good edge to line the folder up to, and they just look like they should be there to finish off the pattern.
To make the card a little different, I've used the debossing method by using the folder on the reverse side. Position the folder just above the scored line. This is a brill folder because you can use it from the top, bottom or sideways, which is the way I have used it and the pattern looks right each way. The Cuttlebug logo is now underneath.

Run through the Bug - Sandwich : A/ B/ Card in folder but not wrapped round/ B
Your base card now looks like this - after I had added another line.

Next for the embellishment - Cut 2 different size hearts
Sandwich: A/ B/ card/ Die -cut side down/ C
Now to emboss these
Sandwich: A/ Die (cut edge up) with card inside/ Tan Mat and Shims (you know how many your machine will need)/ 2 B plates
Run through the Bug

Leave the card inside when you have embossed - turn over and with a scoring pen run round the edge again.

and here you will see why I do this. The embossed edge is now super defined!


To finish my card I have made initials with my Harmony Alphabet and made a flower embellishment with added beads and ribbon

I love the D'vine swirls folder and when you deboss the pattern it gives a completely different look. I'm not sure whether I like it embossed or debossed best -How about you?

Embossing Paste Tutorial

When I went to the craft show this past weekend, I was struck by one of the samples they had hanging in a booth. So... there went my first 20ish bucks at that booth. I bought the embossing plate and the embossing paste. They also gave me a sheet of directions on how to do the technique. I figured even I could manage to smother a metallic plate with goo and squeegee it off! LOL.

So here's what I started with supply wise:

Embossing plate of choice
Embossing paste (this is glossy white)
Dark colored paper
Spatula (I used a Pampered Chef pan scraper)
Tape (low tack)

First step is taping the stencil to the paper (so it doesn't move):

Next step is to add some embossing paste to your spatula and spread across the template. The trick here is to start off the template... drag across the template... and do NOT lift it up or put it down in the template itself (or it forces paste into areas where you don't want it). They sell spatulas (that look a lot like cake decorating spatulas...) but I just used a Pampered Chef pan scraper.

Turn over and take off the tape and gently lift the stencil away from the paper. If you want to add glitter... now is the time to do it (while the paste is still wet). I used the ultrafine clear glitter. Then set the cardstock aside to dry (do not use a heat gun). It'll take a few hours to dry. Then make your card!

Do you want to know a secret? I managed to get embossing paste on the outside border (where there should have been a solid outline around the tree background). So I just trimmed the cardstock right up against the trees and then mounted to another piece of cardstock the same color so you can't tell I made a boo boo.
